Jenni Cadman is a textile artist and tutor based in Dorset.
She trained in Printed Textiles Design at Reigate School of Art and Design graduating in 1980 and for the following 12 years worked within the applied arts of glass, furniture and interior decoration.
Over the years she has experimented with many materials and textile techniques, developing alternative ways of manipulating fabrics and combining textiles with other media. However, stitch has always been a part of her repertoire and it is now the predominant ingredient in her work.
Her current practice pursues a continuing interest in the landscape and of recreating the painted and drawn mark. Using the mechanical process of machine embroidery she applies threads in broad flourishes and strokes to emulate the painted colours and flowing drawn lines of her works on paper.
Jenni’s abstract and figurative textile pictures and wall hangings have been shown widely in solo and group exhibitions including The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey, Thelma Hubert Gallery, Honiton, Allsop Gallery, Bridport, Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, Sussex Barn Gallery, Chichester and the Brighton Art Fair.
She has 22 years teaching and lecturing experience in schools, colleges and with branches of the Embroiderers Guild.
